Desktop Dungeons: a Fun Game On Your Browser
Ok, my first impression of the game was that it was based on seriously old dungeon crawlers. It had that early ’90s graphic feeling and the enemies made me want to crawl a little further into my bed. Buy after you get used to that, the game opens up. The tutorial is funny and well thought out, ending in a way that made me hunger for vengeance against the giant goat monster (I won’t give it away for spoilers’ sake). The sound effects reminded me why I love this type of game so much, and the lack of harsh music allows me to blast my own tunes as I slice through hordes of monsters. As I explore the third dungeon, I realize that the tutorial didn’t lie: you die a lot. Especially when you don’t follow instructions. CURSE YOU GOAT MONSTERS! The game is free to play up until the tenth (due to the GDC in San Francisco this week), at which point you can pre-order one of the game packages for 10 bucks. But compared to all the loot your virtual avatar is bringing back, ten bucks is nothing! I’m buying it, and I hope you do to.
