Discovery of Life in the Most Unlikely Place
Recently scientists discovered a new life form. Appropriately named “Devil Worm,” it lives a mile beneath the earth’s surface where previously only a few strains of bacteria were believed to be able to survive.
Eating small amounts of bacteria and surviving on almost no oxygen, under intense pressure, and exposed to extreme heat, these worms are only a small part of what scientists now believe could be thriving deep beneath our feet. Researchers in this field are now estimating that almost half of all biological matter on earth is deep below the surface.
This new discovery on our planet opens up our perception of the possibility of life on other planets where we had previously been searching for life dependent on sunlight near the surface.
